Visa Guidelines

Important Notice:

  • Options: Obtain a Tanzania visa either online or on arrival. Note that visas are no longer issued at embassies.
  • On-Arrival Visa: Available only for nationalities not requiring a Referral Visa. Online application is recommended.
  • Check Requirements: Verify if your nationality is eligible for an on-arrival visa or requires a Referral Visa.
  • Online Applications: Apply through the official Tanzania Immigration website (immigration.go.tz).

General Requirements:

  • Passports must be valid for at least six months with at least one unused visa page.
  • Choose the correct visa type. If uncertain, seek guidance via email: info@immigration.go.tz.
  • For holidays or tourism, apply for an Ordinary Visa. U.S. nationals must apply for a Multiple Entry Visa.
  • Applications may take up to 10 days to process. Approval notifications will be sent via email.

Types of Visas

  1. Ordinary Visa (Single Entry Visa)

    • For visits, tourism, leisure, attending conferences, family visits, health treatment, etc.
    • Valid for up to 90 days for a single entry.
  2. Business Visa

    • For special assignments, short-term professional roles, or business-related tasks.
    • Valid for up to 90 days, single entry.
  3. Multiple Entry Visa

    • For U.S. nationals visiting for tourism, holidays, or attending conferences.
    • Also issued to company directors, those in bilateral meetings, and family visits.
    • Valid for up to 12 months, but each stay cannot exceed three months.
  4. Transit Visa

    • For those transiting through Tanzania to another destination.
    • Valid for up to 7 days.
  5. Gratis Visa

    • Issued to holders of diplomatic, service, or official passports on official duty.
  6. Student Visa

    • For foreign nationals entering for academic purposes such as research, internships, or language courses.
    • Validity varies based on the program duration.

  1. Online Application

    • Visit the official Tanzania Immigration website (visa.immigration.go.tz).
    • Fill out the application form, upload required documents, and pay the visa fee.
    • Wait for email notification of visa approval before traveling.
  2. On Arrival

    • Available for eligible nationalities. It is advisable to apply online in advance to avoid delays.
